Admissions Ambassadors
Program Description
Ambassadors play an essential role in the recruitment efforts of the Undergraduate Admissions Office. Through campus tours, special events, and conversations at the Welcome Center and on the telephone, Ambassadors have a unique and crucial contact with prospective students and their families. As the most trusted source in the admissions process, prospective students are able to get a true feel for the undergraduate experience at NYU from our Ambassadors.
As an Ambassador, you will share your personal experiences with prospective students and their families, providing them with critical information about New York University.
The time commitment to the program varies from person to person. At minimum, Ambassadors are required to attend training events (approximately once per month), university recruitment events (at least two weekends per semester), give at least one tour per week (tours last about 1 ½ hours), and 2-5 hours of work in the Admissions Office. In total, the Ambassador commitment requires about 5-8 hours per week and Ambassadors are compensated with an hourly wage. Furthermore, there are opportunities to work additional hours throughout the year.
Application and Selection Process
Applications for the Admissions Ambassador Academy can be downloaded here. Applications are due October 16th at the Welcome Center or e-mailed to admissions.ambassadors@nyu.edu. The application is an outline of your experience, involvement on campus, and other basic demographic information. With the application, you must provide a resume, answer some short essay questions, and provide three contacts for recommendations.
Applicants must be current freshmen or sophomores and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
The Admissions Ambassador Academy (AAA)
As part of the hiring process, select applicants will participate in a two-week course, the Admissions Ambassador Academy. The Academy, most often referred to as AAA, is held over two weeks, either in four 75 minute sessions or two 150 minute sessions. Each session will explore a different theme which will be directly relevant to the role of an Ambassador. You will learn about campus resources, basic leadership, and public speaking. We understand that you may not be perfect in these areas, but we want to see how well you respond and how you develop over the course of AAA.
AAA sessions will take place during the week of November 9th and November 16th. Candidates will be assigned to a section of AAA based on their academic availability and will be grouped with 10-12 other students.
Submission of an application does not guarantee participation in the Academy. Please note that attendance at all AAA sessions is required for serious consideration, but does constitute and offer or guarantee of an Ambassador position.
