Selecting a Major
When you apply to NYU, you may apply to only one of our eight schools/colleges, and you should indicate your area of intended study (your "major") within that school/college. In the Academic Programs Section, you can read about the programs available in each of our colleges, and find links to the web pages for each of our schools/colleges.
Students applying to the College of Arts and Science and to the Stern School of Business may indicate "Undecided" in the "Anticipated College Major" question on the application. However, students applying to The Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development, the Tisch School of the Arts, or our School of Continuing and Professional Studies MUST indicate a major, and may not select "Undecided".
Please note that you may not apply directly to the General Studies Program (GSP). Students are selected by the Committee on Admissions from the regular applicant pool for GSP.
Note: Some majors have additional requirements such as a portfolio or audition. See the Special Program Requirements page for more information.
