Internal Transfers
Current undergraduate students who wish to transfer to another school or college within NYU must complete an application to be considered. To be eligible for internal transfer you must be in at least your second semester of consecutive full-time study at your current NYU school or college. Students who have previously applied for an internal transfer and been denied admission must wait one full academic year before becoming eligible to re-apply for an internal transfer to any NYU school or college. Students who have already completed an internal transfer must wait one full academic year before becoming eligible to re-apply for another internal transfer. Students in the Liberal Studies Program should consult with their advisor to determine their eligibility for internal transfer.
There is no application fee for internal transfers. You may submit only one application for internal transfer at a time. Applications submitted after the deadlines below will be at a disadvantage in the admissions process.
Please note that while the admissions office will make every attempt to provide an admissions decision in a timely fashion, it may not be possible to provide the decision in time to complete early registration in your new school or college.
Deadlines
- Spring transfer: November 1
- Summer/Fall transfer: March 1
Beginning with the students seeking internal transfer for Spring 2009, the application process is electronic. The application itself is online (we will not consider a paper version), and notification will be via email (to your NYU email account).
Note for Internal Transfer applicants to Stern School of Business: The most competitive applicants for internal transfer admission to Stern will have completed (or be in the process of completing) semester courses in the following areas: calculus, expository writing, microeconomcs, statistics, managerial accounting, and financial accounting. The calculus course must be the equivalent of Calculus I ; courses such as business calculus, elementary calculus, and calculus for social sciences typically do not satisfy the calculus requirement for Stern. Note also that college credit that may have been awarded to you for AP Calculus does not satisfy the Stern mathematics requirement. In addition, Stern will not transfer any AP credit you may have previously been awarded by your current school in Calculus AB or BC, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, or Statistics. Finally, please note that Stern will not consider for internal transfer any student who originally transferred into another NYU school/college.
