Nursing Special Program Requirements
Applicants to the 15-Month Program
The College of Nursing offers a Bachelor's degree and a 15-Month Accelerated Bachelor's degree for applicants with a non-nursing bachelor's and/or master's degree. The prerequisite program requirements below pertain ONLY to the students interested in the 15-Month Accelerated Program. There are no special program requirements for regular transfer applicants.
Applications to the 15-Month Accelerated Program are accepted for both fall (September) and spring (January) admission. Prior to the starting the program, applicants must have completed or be in the process of completing the following prerequisite courses:
- General Chemistry I with Lab
- Microbiology
- Anatomy and Physiology I OR Anatomy
- Anatomy and Physiology II OR Physiology
- Developmental/Lifespan Psychology (Note: Introduction to Psychology, General Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, Educational Psychology, or Social Psychology do NOT satisfy this requirement)
- Nutrition
- Statistics
All applicants for the 15-Month Program should complete and submit the prerequisite form with their application (if possible), or shortly before or after applying. The form is available at admissons.nyu.edu/pdf/nursing.pdf. Applicants for the 15-Month Program should indicate on their application that they are applying for transfer admission, and are not required to submit their high school transcript or SAT or ACT scores. When responding to the essay prompt, instead of following the guidelines for transfer students presented on both the NYU Application and the Common Application, all 15-Month applicants should complete an essay concerning why they wish to obtain a second bachelor's degree in nursing at NYU.
Please note that the application deadline for September entry for the 15-Month Program is March 1st and the deadline for January entry is October 1st.
Applicants interested in the 15-Month Program who have not completed all of the prerequisite courses and would like to complete them in their first semester at NYU are also accepted for both fall and spring admission. Students choosing to pursue this option should not apply to the 15-Month Program. Rather, they should apply to our regular BS program in nursing. Once students successfully complete the prerequisite courses (typically in the first semester of attendance) they are eligible to transition to the 15-Month Program for their second semester without submitting a new application for admission. Note that students who have not completed the prerequisites upon entry will not be allowed to begin the 15-Month Program until the prerequisites are completed.
The traditional track for regular transfers (those without bachelor’s degrees) is typically two and a half years of full-time study in length. Application deadlines are the same as for all other NYU transfer applicants, November 1st for January entry, and April 1 for September entry. Regular transfers should submit both their high school transcript and their standardized test scores.
